The Best Ways to Exercise on the Beach in 30A, Florida

From Inlet Beach west to Miramar Beach, 30A is a scenic highway and community in the South Walton area of Florida’s Panhandle.
Since all these sunny beach communities front the Gulf of Mexico, water sports are a way of life. But whether by sea or shore, whether you’re a resident or a tourist, you’ll find a form of exercise that suits your needs and inclinations in the 30A area.

Keep It Simple
For starters, just walk or run on the beach. According to Self Magazine, a beach run burns more calories than a run on pavement. Don’t forget the sunblock and a water bottle, because you’ll need to stay extra hydrated.

If you like to walk with your canine friend, you’ll have to find a dog-friendly park. The area has plenty, but dogs aren’t allowed on beaches unless you have a permit, and only Walton County residents can purchase a permit. For tourists, Point Washington State Forest and Topsail Hill State Preserve Park both allow dogs, except on beaches.

Cyclists can head for a 19-mile bike path on the Timpoochee Trail, or the three, five, or 10-mile loops of the Eastern Lake Trail in Point Washington State Forest. You can rent bikes or book a bike tour if you’re visiting the area.

Water Sports
Lovers of adventure sports have plenty of options. Get wet and wild with stand-up paddleboarding, personal watercraft, parasailing or a kayak or pontoon boat. Rentals and lessons are available up and down the coast. There’s also a sunset paddleboard adventure that takes you to a local restaurant for happy hour.

Go Fish or Go Sailing
Organize an inshore or offshore fishing adventure with a charter company. Go snorkeling, scuba diving or check out the dolphins on a charter trip.

When It Rains …
If it’s sunny, you can go to Boot Camp on the Beach. But for air-conditioned exercise, plenty of options line the 30A corridor. Look for yoga studios, Pure Barre, kettlebells, indoor cycling–the usual array of options that you would enjoy anywhere. From pilates to Zumba, you can give your body a workout and help your mind keep its competitive edge.
